A Return to SoCal

As you may or may not know, I'm from San Diego O.G.-ly - born in UCSD student housing and sort of grew up all over the SD county. I spent my childhood in SLC punk, Utah and Seattle too, but mostly Encinitas CA. Going back to So Cal was scary when I did it for the first time in 5 years, this past January. I stayed in Oakland and SF without return from 2004-2009, despite many trips elsewhere. Then Hoyt and I went back there in May, also stopping in LA to visit pals. Going back to your hometown is strange. Imagine the desert meeting the ocean. That's where I'm from. Here's some photos of art, friends, and landscape.

Me on Moonlight Beach - my old turf. In Encinitas, people ritualistically gather on the beach to watch the sunset.

We stayed with Kye and Julia in Echo Park, when we were in LA. They're amazing and inspiring artists. They're emphatically rad.

Life on the Mountain

This week I got to explore the property and I also took some photos of the epic rocks coming out of the seas of grass on the drive in. It's amazing here. The moon and sun are in the sky together every night at sunset and then the sun dips behind the mountain, the moon rises and there are so many stars. It's gorgeous. I don't think i'll ever get over it. You can even see satellites zipping around the earth. Satellites don't twinkle tho.
I'll have some art photos coming soon. My time on the internet/computer has been limited, due to technical difficulties. But those should be resolved by next week. Stay tuned please! xox Kara

Movin' to the country

Gonna be doing a residency, making art in the country for SOME time. Please email me and stuff. I will be posting all the paintings and cactus gardens I am making as often as I can. I am looking forward to communing with the moon and the trees and the dirt. I am curious about the changes that will take place in my art - being removed for the urban environment and rat race - a new psycho-geography that is more natural and billboard free. I am looking forward to this experience and these experiments.
